Solid State has been making cologne in Australia since 2015, out of a workshop in Collingwood. The idea was straightforward: most fragrance is water and alcohol in a heavy glass bottle. Strip those out, base the scent in wax instead, and you get something a fraction of the size that lasts considerably longer on the skin.

The result is a small tin you swipe with a finger and press to the pulse points. No spray, no spill, and no problem at airport security — which is why these end up in every travel bag they enter.

The range runs to six: Aviator (grapefruit, mint, sandalwood), Wayfarer (tobacco, vanilla, spice), Journeyman (mandarin, cedar, vetiver), Cruiser (tangerine, ginger, musk), plus Absolute and Supreme. Australian made, alcohol free, SLS free.
